Haibane Morgan

I just finished watching the entirety of Haibane Renmei, which is a wonderful anime and actually provided enough inspiration for me to finish a piece. I've got lots of half-colored art lying around, you know

I wanted to draw Rakka, HR's protaganist (and also my favorite character), but she would never turn out right (always, always the face), so uh it's a wonky looking Haibane Morgan-chan instead! I'm not really sure what the Haibane themselves are, but they all have halos and little charcoal-grey wings. I tried to make my hoodie here look a little old (like with the stitches) as everything the Haibane own has to be second-hand, something like that. Actually, now that I think about it, the anime left a lot of questions unanswered... Blast! I wish I could read the original doujinshi it was based off of.

All openCanvas 4 junk, with painterly coloring and such. Oh, and the background stockphoto's from [link] , I just messed with the color so the clouds are greenish. The sky in that anime often has a greenyblue tone to it, which I wanted to emulate. Except now the halo doesn't really stand out, huh.

Now! As for the monumental lack of art and whathaveyou, I apologize. I've actually procured a shiny new laptop and a big Wacom Intuos tablet (the dimensions of which escape me, but it's a nice size). Now my lineart is kindasorta less shaky, yay! Thing is, though, I got this neat new setup about a month or two ago. So why the general lack of artses?... well, mostly 'cause I was never happy with my work, and I'd never finish it! As I've said, I have lots of unfinished stuff sitting around on this laptop already. I even have an almost-finished digipainted piece featuring Rakka, but... I never drew in her head XD I just can't emulate the style without somehow making her unrecognizable!

Maybe I should post some of my wacky, random, humorous doodles? I mean, it's my comedic stuff that seems to go over really well (like "Nintendogs...?" or "Harvest Moonisms"), but I never post enough of it, because... uuuh somereason!

(and is it just me, or is anyone else bothered by the fact the Manga/Anime category was made completely seperate from the Digital Art category? It's like they're trying to segregate that sort of art 'cause it bugs some people so much, but sometimes it's hard to tell if a piece counts as manga/anime vs. everythingelse)
